Unlike many schools where teachers are asked to cover several subjects, we expect our elementary grade teachers to be experts in only a single content area. All teachers work with 3-5 other teachers in an Academic Family and remain with their grade level colleagues and family of 40-80 students for 3-4 years at a time (3 years in k-2; 3 years in grades 3-5; 3 years in grades 6-8; 4 years in grades 9-12). We ask all staff to fully commit to this 3-4 year commitment. Naturally, we understand that life happens, and we will handle these circumstances when they arise. However, we expect every teacher to be uncompromising in this commitment to our students.
