Even in a regular, boring, and typical year we need to take care of ourselves first in order to care for others. I think it is safe to say you likely wear more than one hat. It could be one of parent, employee, teacher, spouse, friend, among many more. This calendar year has been full of unknowns and challenges, more than anyone could have possibly expected. A very smart
coworker told me ‘I can only worry about what I can control’ and this has stuck with me. It is a perfect statement for this year especially! So what can you control? You can control taking care of yourself. Take off a few hats and just care for you. The task of guiding children through their typical schooling, and now virtual learning is a lot. If I am tired, stressed, or hungry (sometimes all three at once!) I am not the best person to be around. Be sure to take care of yourself and take ‘brain breaks’ just as the students get during the learning day. Take a walk, listen to your favorite music, read, call a friend…anything for you! If you are in need of a brain break, you are more likely to have less patience to do all your tasks. Be in control of you and you will be better able to wear all of your needed hats.
